In Honor of Dr Jane @EvaVarga.netIn Honor of Dr Jane: Every Individual Matters

My children and I have had the opportunity to meet Dr. Jane on several occasions. Her quiet demeanor and the strength of her conviction always inspire us to do more. Come learn more about the grassroots service learning branch of the Jane Goodall Institute.

It's Our Turn to Lead @EvaVarga.netIt’s Our Turn to Lead: Earth Day 2015

Earth Day is a reminder of what we should be doing all year long. As adults, it’s our job to teach our youth, to lead by example. Kids will follow in our footsteps once they understand the value in what they’re doing. In this post, I share a number of great volunteer opportunities for people of all ages.

For Earth Day we will be picking out fruit trees to place on our property. It will help the Earth by: 1. No trucking of our fruit. 2. Give the bees more flowers to pollinate. And 3. Since we can our own fruit we keep waste from going in to landfills.

That’s awesome, Elizabeth! We have a lemon tree that is very productive! I love being able to get fresh lemons whenever we want one. 🙂

We moved into our house last June and did not even look at planting anything, lol. I think this year, we will grow some tomato plants and plant a few trees.

We’ll be adding more mulch to our already-mulched yards to conserve water, and we too will be planting a fruit tree! We have a baby loquat in a pot, so we’ll be transplanting it into the ground. Hoping to espalier it as we have very limited space!

We attend an event at a local county park every Earth Day. They provide lots of educational activities for kids, including a hike along the bay. One year, they even had a truck that picked up e-waste. For every item you brought in you got a raffle ticket to win tickets to the local aquarium.
