I spent my teen years trying to excuse it as an isolated incident that wouldn’t happen again.
I spent my early 20’s trying to prove that we weren’t the stereotypes they said we were.
I spent my late 20’s being afraid and angry.
I’ve spent my adult years thinking that education was the key. That it was simply ignorance.
I am tired of trying to convince people that systemic racism is real."

Zora Neale Hurston once said, “If you’re silent about your pain, they will kill you and say that you enjoyed it.”

But what about when it exhausts you and hurts to have to put your pain on display to get others to care?

Lin-Manuel Miranda wrote, "When you got skin in the game, you stay in the game, but you don't get to win unless you play in the game."

A new trimester is underway and with it, adjusting A new trimester is underway and with it, adjusting to new schedules. I’ve been fortunate to be able to teach in-person the pair of #emergentbilinguals pictured here since the start of the school year. Today, we began a mini-unit with the #mentortext “The Best Part of Me”. Here, they are pictured tracing an outline of one another which they then labeled with the parts of the body. There were many laughs and comparisons of English and Spanish (fingers & toes versus dedos). It was a great day despite the set back that my high school class is not fully in-person as we had expected going into spring break last week. Instead, I lost two students who moved back to Mexico and now have only three students: 2 “roomies” (1 advanced, 1 intermediate) and 1 “zoomie” (intermediate). It will be a challenge but I loved the interaction and engagement I observed today. #eslteacher #ellteacher #esol #esl #ell #educatorsofinstagram #teachersofinstagram

It captures the experience of camp so well (especially for a young person who doesn’t care much for it). I highly recommend it to all who have been to summer camp and most especially to those in #scouting. #graphicnovel #summercamp #verabrosgol #beprepared #scouts #scoutsbsa
