Sled Dogs Run written by Jonathan London and illustrated by Jon Van Zyle.
“Whoosh! We take off… our sled nearly flying off the ground.” This is a great story about three young Alaskan huskies (Skookum, Hawk and Bamboo) and their young musher, that are training together as a part of a sled dog team. Throughout the book, factual information about how the dogs are cared for, what equipment is used, how they communicate with one another, and the many dangers they encounter on the trail are shared.
It is an engaging story. Young readers are immediately captivated by the small team. The illustrations are colorful and delightful.
My children enjoyed the story and afterwards asked, “Can we follow a team on the Iditarod again?” Most assuredly. 😀
